Legume crops use their own unique genetic flowering clock
Scientists reviewing legume genetics found that beans, soybeans, peas, and their relatives don't all use the same internal calendar to decide when to flower. Instead of relying only on the classic gene pair found in most flowering plants, many legumes use a different light-sensing protein and a unique legume-specific gene switch, helping explain how these crops adapted to different growing regions worldwide.
