Analytics

This site uses GoatCounter for analytics. From GoatCounter:

We see aggregate page views, referrers, and browser types. We cannot identify individual visitors via analytics.

Newsletter & Signup

When you subscribe to the weekly newsletter, the following data is collected:

  • Your email address is stored in Resend, our email service provider. We use it to send the weekly newsletter and a one-time confirmation email when you sign up.
  • Your IP address is logged briefly at sign-up and confirmation moments for abuse prevention. Logs are retained for 24 hours by Netlify, then deleted.
  • A truncated hash of your email (first 12 characters of a SHA-256) is logged alongside the IP for correlating sign-up and confirmation events. Also 24-hour retention.
  • To stop automated signup floods, the form runs Cloudflare Turnstile — a bot challenge that may inspect your browser headers and set a short-lived cookie. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for their handling.

We do not share your email with anyone. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every newsletter — clicking it removes you from the Resend audience.

Article abstracts are sourced from PubMed, bioRxiv, and iNaturalist. Abstract previews are displayed with links to the original source. Copyright for abstracts is held by the respective journal publishers or authors.

Plant descriptions and images are sourced from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. This content is used under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). Attribution is provided via links to the original Wikipedia articles.
