Ginger and turmeric compounds show promise against aggressive breast cancer

The ginger root and turmeric in your kitchen spice rack contain compounds now shown to bind effectively to a protein driving one of the toughest breast cancers to treat.
Researchers used computer modeling to hunt for weak points in triple-negative breast cancer, a hard-to-treat form of the disease. They found a protein called PSMB2 that plays a central role, then tested whether natural plant compounds could latch onto it. Compounds from ginger (6-gingerol) and turmeric (curcumin and a related compound called demethoxycurcumin) fit the protein well in these simulations, hinting they could be starting points for new drugs.
