Rhubarb-family plant compounds may target a liver cancer gene

The tart rhubarb stalks in your garden and the aloe on your windowsill both produce anthraquinones, the same class of compound scientists are now mining for cancer-fighting clues using public gene databases.
Plants like rhubarb, aloe, and senna make a group of chemicals called anthraquinones, which have long been used in traditional remedies. This study used computer databases of cancer gene activity to trace how these plant compounds interact with a gene called HRAS that's involved in liver cancer, giving scientists a roadmap for which natural compounds might be worth testing further.
