That unpretentious potted aloe on your windowsill — the one you snap open for burns — turns out to contain compounds that researchers are seriously investigating as multi-target cancer fighters.
Scientists reviewed a decade of research on aloe vera and found its natural chemicals can attack cancer cells in several different ways at once, rather than just one. The plant's gel and latex contain compounds that trigger cancer cell death, block tumor growth, and even boost the immune system. While this is exciting, these effects have mostly been shown in lab dishes and animal studies, so we still need human clinical trials to know if aloe vera works as a cancer treatment in real patients.
