Traditional Tibetan liver remedy yields 74 alkaloids, eight of them newly discovered
Europe PMC · 2026-07-01
Researchers mapped 74 distinct alkaloid compounds in a Tibetan medicinal plant called Corydalis impatiens, including 8 never described before. These compounds are likely responsible for the plant's traditional use in treating liver disease.
1
74 isoquinoline alkaloids were identified across 6 structural classes, including 20 tetrahydroprotoberberines and 19 protoberberines
2
8 compounds were tentatively identified as new-to-science alkaloids, all belonging to phthalide isoquinoline or benzylisoquinoline subtypes
3
Feature-based molecular networking (FBMN) proved effective for rapidly cataloging complex alkaloid mixtures and flagging novel compounds in crude plant extracts
