New machine turns raw bamboo into sticks at home
Ethnobotany
Bamboo in your garden or local grove could one day be processed into usable sticks and craft materials without shipping raw stalks overseas first.
Indonesia grows tons of bamboo, but strangely still imports finished bamboo sticks from other countries because local processing tech is limited. Scientists built and tested a new machine that shaves raw bamboo into sticks, then checked the quality of what it produced. The sticks showed real promise for everyday uses, though the team says more tweaking is needed to get the quality just right.
Key Findings
A prototype bamboo shaving machine was designed, manufactured, and successfully produced bamboo sticks as intended.
Qualitative analysis of the output sticks showed strong potential for practical, multi-purpose use.
Researchers identified that continued optimization is still needed to reach maximum stick quality.
