The same folk-medicine logic that sends herbalists digging up umbellifer roots for liver remedies is now getting lab-grade proof, showing one compound in that root oil directly grabs onto a specific protein to calm inflammation.
Pimpinella diversifolia is a wild herb long used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat liver problems. Researchers tested oil from its roots on mice with severe liver damage and found it worked, then hunted down exactly which molecule in the oil was doing the heavy lifting. They pinpointed one compound that latches onto a specific protein inside cells, dialing down a chain reaction of inflammation that would otherwise wreck liver tissue.
