Farmers in the UAE grow date palms and vegetables in brutal heat and salty soil, and they've leaned hard on pesticides to fight off pests like the red palm weevil. This review shows that approach is backfiring: pests are becoming resistant, helpful insects are dying off, and chemical residues are seeping into soil and water. Gentler tools like pheromone traps, microbial sprays, and better scouting work well in trials, but most farms still don't have the training or support to switch over.
