Certain plants, especially flaxseed and sesame, contain compounds called lignans that your body can't use directly. Gut bacteria have to break them down first, and this study found that once broken down, they produce a molecule that helps a common chemotherapy drug work better against a hard-to-treat breast cancer while also keeping the gut's bacterial community healthier during treatment. It's a striking example of how plant chemistry, gut microbes, and human health are all connected.
