Fermented tea's tiny particles slow liver cancer in lab tests

The teapot in your kitchen holds more than flavor: fermented dark teas are packed with plant-made nanoparticles carrying flavonoids and microRNAs that survive digestion far better than the tea compounds we usually hear about.

Researchers pulled out microscopic, bubble-like particles from dark tea, the same kind of fermented tea used for centuries in parts of Asia. These particles are stuffed with plant flavonoids, fatty compounds, amino acids, and tiny genetic snippets called microRNAs. When fed to mice with liver cancer, the particles shrank tumors, calmed inflammation, shifted gut bacteria toward a healthier mix, and even worked on cancer tissue grown from real patient samples in the lab.
