The hedgerows, flowering borders, and mixed plantings you see edging farm fields aren't just pretty, they're recruiting an army of predatory and parasitic insects that keep crop pests in check without extra spraying.

Farmers growing canola (also called rapeseed) usually fight pests by piling on several control methods at once, like a toolbox where you grab whatever's available. This review argues for a smarter approach: designing habitats, training beneficial insects' behavior, and using evolutionary tricks so all these methods actively reinforce each other instead of just coexisting. The idea is that a hedgerow, a companion plant, and a predatory insect's learned habits work best when they're built to complement one another, not just added up.
