Coffee plants can regenerate from a single cell in a lab dish, a process guided by a hormone called auxin. Researchers found a gene called CcYUC1 that ramps up right when this regeneration starts, and they built a molecular scissors tool that snips this exact gene with over 80% accuracy, all without inserting foreign DNA into the plant. It's an early but important step toward breeding better coffee plants faster.
