The honey in your pantry and the bees pollinating your garden are exposed to pesticide residues through a hidden pathway that the industry has marketed as the gentler option.

Farmers often coat rice seeds with pesticide instead of spraying fields, assuming it's a cleaner, more targeted approach. A five-month field study found the opposite: seed-coated pesticide moves efficiently from soil into pollen and then into honey, building up steadily regardless of weather, while sprayed pesticide breaks down more with rain and heat and creates less honey contamination overall. Nearly all of the bee colony risk from seed-coated rice came from tainted honey.
