Dogwood sightings drop by half but still top the charts

Native Plants
If you've noticed red-stemmed shrubs looking duller along trails or creek banks lately, you're not imagining it: this native dogwood's visible identifying window is closing for the season.
Red osier dogwood is a native shrub known for its bright red winter twigs, and plant-spotters across Canada logged 231 sightings of it this week on the citizen-science app iNaturalist. That's less than half of last week's 478 observations, likely because the plant's fall leaf color is fading and it's getting harder to spot and identify. Even with the drop, it's still one of the most-observed plants in the country right now.
Key Findings
231 observations recorded in Canada over the past 7 days
Down from 478 observations the prior week, a drop of 247 sightings
Still ranks among the most-observed plant species in Canada this week
chevron_right Technical Summary
Red osier dogwood sightings on iNaturalist in Canada dropped sharply this week, from 478 observations to 231, but it's still one of the most-logged plants in the country.
