Why releasing more pest-control wasps can backfire on farms

If you've ever released ladybugs or beneficial wasps in your garden hoping to control aphids or caterpillars, this explains why sometimes it works great and other times the pests barely budge.

Parasitic wasps are tiny insects that farmers and gardeners release to kill pest insects by laying eggs inside them. This study found that when you release multiple types of these wasps, they often end up competing with each other over the same pest hosts, which can actually weaken pest control instead of strengthening it. The researchers built a framework to help people choose the right combination, timing, and number of wasps to release so they work together instead of against each other.
