Forever chemicals called PFAS are showing up in water supplies everywhere because they don't break down naturally. Researchers found that leftover plant material, things like husks, shells, and stems that normally get thrown away, can be chemically treated to grab onto these pollutants and pull them out of water. It's a promising, low-cost way to clean up contamination using stuff that would otherwise be waste.
