Think of a plant cell's outer membrane as a crowded room where hundreds of different proteins need to find their designated spots to do their jobs, like sensing threats or coordinating growth. Researchers discovered a protein called HIR2 that works like a scaffold, physically gathering certain receptor proteins into clusters so they function correctly. When they removed HIR2 from Arabidopsis plants, the plants grew poorly and had weakened immune responses, showing just how important this organizing role is.
