Body inflammation worsens pesticide harm in vegetable farmers

If you spray pesticides on your own vegetable beds or buy from small growers who do, this study is a reminder that the people handling those chemicals face compounding health risks tied to their body's own inflammatory response.
Researchers looked at farmers who grow vegetables and regularly work with pesticides, checking their blood for signs of pesticide exposure and inflammation. They found that farmers with higher levels of an inflammation signal called IL-6 were more likely to see pesticide exposure translate into bigger waistlines, higher blood pressure, and other signs of metabolic syndrome. In other words, the same pesticide exposure can hit some bodies harder depending on how much background inflammation they're already carrying.
