One fungicide beats litchi's worst fungal disease at every stage

If you grow lychee or know someone who does, downy blight can wipe out a harvest fast, and knowing which spray actually stops the pathogen from spreading, not just slows it, means less wasted chemical and more fruit on the tree.
Lychee trees suffer from a disease called downy blight, caused by a water-mold pathogen that spreads through spores in several distinct stages, from fungal threads growing in the plant to spores swimming through water to infect new tissue. Researchers tested five fungicides against every one of these stages and found that pyraclostrobin worked at incredibly tiny concentrations to block almost all of them, while other fungicides like mancozeb and propamocarb hydrochloride only stopped some stages and left others, like spore germination, untouched. This kind of detailed testing helps farmers pick the right chemical for the right job instead of guessing.
Key Findings
Pyraclostrobin inhibited nearly all developmental stages of the pathogen at very low doses (EC50 0.003-0.270 μg/mL), including mycelial growth, sporangium formation, zoospore release, cyst germination, and oospore production.
Metalaxyl and dimethomorph were highly effective against mycelial growth and sporangium/oospore production but performed poorly against cyst germination.
Propamocarb hydrochloride needed much higher concentrations (26.988-519.308 μg/mL) and failed to stop zoospore release or cyst germination, though it deformed sporangiophores above 50 μg/mL.
