New AI tool predicts gene-editing success in mice, humans

The underlying editing technology, prime editing, is the same molecular toolkit plant breeders increasingly use to tweak crop genes without inserting foreign DNA, so smarter prediction models like this one could eventually speed up disease-resistant or climate-tolerant plant varieties even though this particular study never touches a leaf.

Researchers made a computer program that guesses how well a precise DNA-editing tool will work in a cell before scientists actually try it, saving time and materials. They tested it by fixing a harmful genetic mutation in the brain cells of live mice, showing the prediction tool works in real living tissue, not just in a lab dish.
