The scattered layout of flowers in your garden, not just the flower type, influences which bees and butterflies actually show up to pollinate them.

Researchers tracked which pollinators visited which individual plants in a real meadow, then built computer models to figure out why some plants get visited by tons of different pollinator species while others get just a few. It turns out the answer isn't mainly about flower traits matching pollinator preferences, it's about simpler things: how common each species is, how pollinators tend to move and behave, and literally where each plant is positioned in space. This means the physical arrangement of your garden could matter as much as plant choice for attracting diverse pollinators.
