Trust and training, not just money, drive climate-smart farming

If you've ever wondered why some farms bounce back from drought while neighboring fields wither, this research shows it often comes down to whether a farmer trusts new tools and has someone to call for advice, not just how much land or cash they have.
Researchers surveyed 430 farmers in a dry region of Iran to figure out why some adopt water-saving, soil-protecting farming methods and others don't. It turns out that things like belonging to a farming cooperative, having access to loans and training, and simply trusting new agricultural tools matter more than expected, and farmers out in the countryside were quicker to embrace these practices than those closer to cities.

Education, self-efficacy, cooperative membership, extension access, credit availability, job satisfaction, trust in new inputs, and crop insurance all significantly increased CSA practice adoption.
Limited training access and poorly aligned government support reduced adoption, and rural farmers showed significantly higher adoption than urban farmers.
