Worm-composted rabbit manure and food scraps supercharge vegetable yields

If you've got a backyard compost bin and access to rabbit droppings, this study gives you an actual recipe, half manure and half kitchen scraps, for worm compost that measurably grows bigger tomatoes and lettuce.
Scientists fed worms different blends of rabbit poop and kitchen or garden scraps, then used the resulting compost to grow tomatoes, lettuce, and carrots. A fifty-fifty mix turned out to be the sweet spot, giving the compost a good carbon-to-nitrogen balance, a thriving microbial community, and the biggest harvests of tomatoes and lettuce, while carrots actually preferred compost with more plant waste than manure.
Key Findings
The 50% rabbit manure : 50% plant/kitchen waste mix achieved an ideal C/N ratio of 21, with the strongest enzyme activity and most diverse microbial community.
This 50:50 blend produced the highest yields for tomato (10.2 kg/m²) and lettuce (4.5 kg/m²), while carrots grew best with plant-waste-dominant compost.
All vermicompost treatments significantly outperformed the untreated control and improved soil structure, cation exchange capacity (CEC), and microbial activity after application.
