Fluoride pollution silently disrupts how crops grow and reproduce

If you're gardening near industrial areas, brick kilns, or heavy traffic, fluoride buildup in your soil could be behind stunted growth or scorched-looking leaves you can't otherwise explain.

Fluoride is a common pollutant from factories, coal burning, and even some water and fertilizers, and when it builds up in soil, plants absorb it through their roots. Once inside, it messes with the plant's internal machinery: it weakens the enzymes that protect against stress, blocks calcium from doing its job in pollen and fertilization, and interferes with photosynthesis. The visible result is leaves that yellow and die at the edges, fruit and leaves that drop early, and fewer seeds produced overall.
